The Currency in Portugal

Portugal is a member of the EU, and the country’s currency is the Euro (€) which replaced the Portuguese Escudo in 2002. The Euro’s official currency code is EUR, which is how it is displayed at Moneycorp. One Euro is subdivided into 100 cents. Banknotes are available in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500 Euro, and coins are available in denominations of 1 and 2 Euros and 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 cents. £1 is worth €1.12 as of 8.19am on 17 February 2023.

How Much Does Transport Cost in Portugal?
