When you make an international payment to an Australian bank account, you will be required to provide the following details:

• The full name of account holder
• The name of the receiver’s bank
• Your receiver’s address
• Your receiver’s BIC/SWIFT code
• Your receiver’s account number and BSB code

A BSB code, or Bank-State-Branch number, is a code that identifies the individual branches of Australian financial institutions. BSB codes enable banks and financial institutions to identify the recipient of bank transfers to Australia, and so they can be thought of as the Australian equivalent of sort codes in the UK and routing numbers in the United States. Both a BSB and an account number will need to be provided to transfer money to Australia.

BSBs are six-digit sort codes. The format of a BSB code is as follows:

• 2 digit code – this represents the bank
• 1 digit code – this relates to the state in which the bank branch is located
• 3 digit code – this relates to the specific branch

There is an upper limit of £100,000 on personal transfers that can be made through our online platform to Australia. Transfers made over the phone, on the other hand, have no upper limit, and so you will need to contact your Moneycorp account manager by telephone to make larger payments from the UK to Australia.
