What information do I need for a bank transfer to Portugal?
If you plan on sending money to a Portuguese bank account, you will need to obtain the following information from your recipient:
- Their full name and address
- Their IBAN
- Their BIC/SWIFT code

What does a Portuguese IBAN look like?
IBANs (International Bank Account Numbers) in Portugal are 25 characters long, and they consist of the following:
- An ISO Country Code
- A two-digit check number
- A Basic Bank Account Number (BBAN) (this is 21 characters)
We require that you provide us with your recipient’s IBAN, as this enables us to correctly identify their bank account when transferring your payment.

Is there a limit on how much money I can send to Portugal?
There is an upper limit of £100,000 on personal transfers that can be made through our online platform to Portugal. Transfers that are made over the phone, on the other hand, have no upper limit, and so you will need to contact your Moneycorp account manager by telephone in order to make larger payments from the UK to Portugal.
